This week, the Texas Federation of Teachers announced their choice in the Texas State House of Representative, District 139 race.
Randy Bates responded:
This endorsement means so much to me because education has played an important part in my career. I have dedicated my life to ensuring quality education has been represented throughout the District 139. I am humbled by this tremendous sign of confidence, they have placed in our ability to continue quality leadership in District 139.
There is a special place in my heart for teachers. They are the foundation of each and every profession. Whether you are a Doctor or a Construction Worker, we have all been taught by a teacher. Without teachers, no other profession exists.
I would like to thank the membership for placing their trust and believing in my vision to move District 139 forward. As a former educator and former Lone Star Board Trustee and Chair for the Lone Star College System, I will continue to fight to bring better quality education for all students from Pre-K through Higher Education. I look forward to building a strong relationship with all school districts within District 139.
The Texas Federation of Teachers endorsement comes in addition to other endorsements. The Houston Firefighters Local 341, Coalition of Black Unionists, AFL-CIO, Houston Black American Democrats, Harris County Young Democrats, Houston GLBT Caucus, Houston Stonewall Young Democrats, Houston Federation of Teachers, Texas State Teachers Association, religious leaders, and community leaders from across District 139 have also announced their endorsement for Randy Bates.
Early voting takes place February 16-26, 2016 and Election Day is March 1, 2016.
